Earache is a very common problem found in adults and children. Ear is a vital organ of the human body and its main function is to hear and maintain the body balance. The ear is divided into three sections - the outer ear, inner ear and middle ear. All these three divisions can have separate problems. A diagnosis helps to know about the affected part. But the general symptoms of earache can be as followed:
- Mild itching sensation and pain related with it.

- Thick liquid discharge from the ear and loss of hearing can be a very alarming symptom of earache.

- Earwax, which blocks the ear and causes pain. This is a very common problem in adults as well as children. Occasional cleaning of ear will help to prevent wax from getting deposited inside the ear.
- Persons suffering from cold, pharyngitis or tonsillitis can have severe earache. This happens due to cold.
- Persons suffering from sinus can also have earache.
- Any kind of blockage inside the year, maybe because of water getting inside the ear while bathing, can be a cause of earache.
- While cleaning the ear sometimes a small scratch or a little damage is done. This can be a cause for ailing ears. A good diagnosis will help to find out the amount of damage made in the ear. The treatment can be done accordingly.
- Sometimes a patient suffering from arthritis can have earache too.
- A fungus growth inside the ear is also a cause of earache.

- One of the most popular home remedies for earache is the juice of Basil leaves. A few Basil leaves are to be extracted and the juice has to be put inside the ear. This remedy has done wonders to many.
- One can also put a few drops of garlic juice into the ear to stop earache.
- A few drops of Hydrogen Peroxide can be a good remedy for an aching ear.
- A few drops of mustard oil in the ear helps to soften earwax. When it is cleaned the aching will immediately stop.
