What are the causes for Athletes foot?

Athletes foot is a highly contagious fungal infection. It multiplies between the toes or even on the hands. Athletes foot infection can affect anyone and even the non-athletic people can be afflicted by it.

  • Wearing of closed shoes (particularly plastic-lined ones) can cause a person to develop this kind of an infection.
  • Any person sweating profusely can have this fungal infection.
  • Occurrence of a minor skin or nail injury can cause this infection.
  • Sharing of locker or shower rooms can induce this contagious fungal infection.

What are the symptoms for Athletes foot?

  • Skin on the foot becomes red or white.
  • Cracks, scales , cuts, blisters can be seen and this is accompanied by painful inflammation.
  • Burning and itching, stinging or scratching sensations may also occur between the third, fourth and fifth toe.

Home remedies for Athletes foot?

  • Use of commonly available natural products and rubbing diluted alcohol on the affected area with cotton balls is an effective measure to combat fungal growth.
  • Application of Aloe Vera gel twice daily or apple cider vinegar that contains anti fungal properties are also effective remedies. If the feet are soaked in an equal mixture apple cider vinegar and water for ten minutes daily then the results are visible in ten days.
  • A solution of water and baking soda is an effective home remedy. Soak the feet in this water and you will be able to combat this fungal infection.
  • Another effective measure of curing Athlete’s foot is rubbing a clove of raw garlic on the fungus.
  • A careful and thorough washing of feet (sweaty ones) daily and drying thereafter between the toes is very important.
  • Keep your personal things like towels, socks and shoes away from contact with those belonging to others
  • Tea tree oil is an effective cure for athlete’s foot . The tea tree oil contains anti-fungal qualities and it should be applied directly to the affected area three times per day.
  • A mixture of Aloe Vera gel with 1/2 teaspoon of tea tree oil can be sprayed on the affected area twice a day.
  • Grapefruit seed extract consists of strong anti-fungal qualities. Extract and apply a few drops to the palm and rub it into the feet two or three times daily. It has proved to be a very effective measure.
