What is dandruff?
People across the globe suffer from this acute problem of dandruff. Commonly known as seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff is characterized by a inflammation of the superficial layers of the skin, which causes scales on the scalp as well as in other parts of the body.

What are the causes of dandruff?
There are various causes for dandruff. The major causes that usually cause dandruff are:

  • Acute mental stress.
  • Very poor nutrition and diet that comprises rich as well as junk food.
  • Lack of proper rest and improper schedule.
  • Too much use of harmful chemical products like gels and hair sprays. Also use of unclean towels, excessive use of hot curling irons etc can cause this infection.
  • Climate plays a very important role to aggravate this problem. During winters dandruff occurs more while it is less severe during summer.
  • Dandruff is also caused due to overactive oil glands, which leads to excessive oil secretion on the body.
  • Hormonal problem also leads to dandruff.
  • And finally genetic factors are also responsible for causing dandruff.

What are the symptoms of dandruff?
Dry and itchy scalp is the primary symptom of dandruff. This condition, known as psoriasis is also accompanied by acute hair loss and it often triggers alopecia both in males as well as females.

Home Remedies for dandruff:

  • Apply Aloe Vera extracts all over your scalp daily. Leave it for10-15 minutes before you wash as well as shampoo your hair.
  • Using lime juice on to your scalp is also a very good remedy. Massage it and wash it off with warm water.
  • Soak 2 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in the water. Leave it overnight. Grind it in the morning and apply it on to your scalp. After ½ an hour wash it off with tepid water.
  • Take a mixture of olive oil and almond oil. Massage it until it burns. Then rinse it well to get good results.
  • Massage your hair with warm coconut oil mixed with the juice of 2 lemons. Leave your hair for 2hours and shampoo it. Use it 2to 3 times a week to get the best results.
  • Take a handful of boiled margosa leaves in 4 teacups of water. After cooling and filtering it , use it for washing your hair daily. This will prevent any infection.
  • Keep your hair clean and use a clean towel always. Do not share your hair accessories as well as comb with others.
  • Beets have been found useful in dandruff. Both tops and roots should be boiled in water and this water should be massaged into the scalp with the fingertips every night. White beet is better for this purpose.
