An exciting Saturday night party with a bunch of friends and a carton of beer cans is the most desirable stress buster technique after an extremely busy week at work. But the mantra of work hard and party harder can lead to a terrible hangover the next morning. (Hangover is the condition, which is followed by excessive drinking i.e. excessive consumption of alcohol) And what if you are out of pills to get rid of it? To help you out of such a situation, here are some home remedies for hangover along with the causes and symptoms of hangover.

What are the symptoms of hangover?
Some of the commonly experienced symptoms of hangover are:

  • Headache
  • Vomiting
  • Dry mouth
  • Photophobia i.e. irritation and dislike for bright light
  • Tiredness or fatigue
  • Red eyes
  • Noise sensitivity
  • Excessive thirst
  • Indigestion
  • Dizziness and spinning of head.

What are the causes of hangover?
Alcohol is a drug, which the body metabolism resists and protects from by producing enzymes to remove the toxics from the body by metabolizing it. Thus drinking to a certain limit can be tolerated by with the help of body mechanism. But when a person indulges in excessive drinking, then body’s metabolism becomes inefficient to deal with increased amount of toxins and the result is a hangover.
So the main cause of a hangover are an individual’s drinking habits. Getting high with too much and too fast of drinking can give you a hangover the next morning. Apart from alcohol there are some medications too that can be cause of hangover.

Now lets check out some home remedies for hangover:

  • Water therapy: The most easy and common home remedy for hangover is drinking a lot of water. Drinking a few glasses of water will reduce the dehydrating effect of alcohol. Drinking a lot of water after alcohol consumption but before going to bed can help prevent or at least reduce the intensity of hangover.
  • Vitamin C at rescue: Drinking fresh lime water or orange juice, both of which are rich in vitamin C can help cure hangover. Vitamin C acts as agent in breaking down alcohol content in body thus helping get rid of hangover.
  • Eat and Drink: Having food while and after drinking can reduce the pace at which alcohol mixes with the blood. As the mixing process slows down, the effect of alcohol too reduces and prevents hangover.
