Sunstroke is a condition in which the heat regulating system of the body fails, due to continuous exposure to high temperatures. In this condition, the body temperature becomes very high which can even damage the major organs. Actually, the sunstroke occurs when the body can no longer maintain the normal body temperature, i.e. heat exhaustion.   • Heavy exercise for a long time particularly in the summer can cause sunstroke.
  • Working while having high fever contributes to sunstroke.
  • When water and salt (sodium and chloride) become less (dehydration) in the body, sunstroke can attack anytime.
  • Even less sweating increases the risks of sunstroke, most of the time.

  • The first thing that is to be done in this situation is to drink plenty of water to cool the dehydration.
  • Next best thing to be done is to shift the person in a cool place like in an air-conditioned room.
  • Then comes cooling the skin by applying ice or cold water.
  • Removing few clothing, especially if it is too much tight, can help to a great extent.
  • Besides water, drinking fluids containing sugar and salt both can provide quick relief
  • One important remedy is to give the patient the drink made up of raw mangoes, by boiling it in water and mixing the extract with salt and sugar.
  • Onions are one of the remedies. Especially if it is taken raw with salad.
