How to get rid of blackheads?

Blackhead removal is one of the most important aspects of maintaining a healthy skin. Black heads mostly tend to develop on an oily skin types. They develop due to excess of oil that clogs on a skin pore. If this pore is open, the oil is prone to oxidation which eventually blackens to result in a black head. Excessive use of cosmetics of make up may also lead to the formation of a black head.

The best method for black head removal is to squeeze them out. Though, it’s a painful procedure, the following may help.

  • One must use a scrub or an exfoliant for softening the area of contention.
  • This has to be followed by the patting the face dry.
  • Compress the area of contention against a warm cloth of towel. This makes the removal of the blackhead simpler and quicker.
  • Cover you finger tips with pieces of soft tissue to avoid slipping of fingers while squeezing the black head out. This also prevents further damage to skin.
  • Apply pressure evenly around the black head. The direction should be such that the pressure gets applied from underneath. Do not repeat this attempt more than two times. Else, it might cause a blemish or a bruise or a scar as well.

Certain other means of black head removal are the usage of pore strips. These strips are meant only for use on the nose. They are however not recommended as they may harm the skin of the affected area. Also, they only have a temporary effect and usually need to be used on a weekly or fortnightly basis. Repeated use of the strips may lead to abrasive skin. Blackhead extractors are instruments that can also be used for the same.

Black head removal must always be followed by blackhead prevention. This can be done by using a gentle cleanser regularly. One must be careful of not letting the face remain dirty or unwashed for a long time. In case of extra ordinarily oily skin, one can keep splashing plain water on the face (at least three times a day). One must scrub or exfoliate regularly in order to keep the susceptible pores clean. It also removes the dead cells which are the most vulnerable places for the formation of black heads. In case one has oily skin, oil absorbing tissues can be used to maintain cleanliness. Application of astringent on the skin also helps to keep it clean.
