What is yeast infection?

Yeast infection is specifically a fungal infection (the fungus Candida). Itching, burning or redness of the vaginal area characterizes this infection. Yeast infection is a very common disease, which occurs after menopause in women due to lowering of the estrogen level. This infection is also named as Candidiasis.

What are the causes of yeast infection?

The causes of yeast infection includes:

  • To prevent this infection, you can apply garlic paste directly on the infected parts. However avoid using it inside the vaginal area.
  • Another effective remedy for yeast infection is to peel a fresh clove of garlic and tie it up in cheesecloth with the help of dental floss. This then becomes similar to a tampon which is then inserted and left for few hours or the entire night. Take this out in the morning.
  • Make a good mixture of a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, 2 cups of normal water, and 1 clove of garlic. Leave it for sometime and then apply it to the infected part for getting the best results.
  • Drinking 2 glasses of buttermilk everyday, and intake of curds as an essential part of diet, help you to combat the infection.
  • Using coconut oil, available at any health food store during cooking instead of other vegetable oils will also help you to ward off the infection.
  • Apply honey (half cup) on the affected area and leave it for 20 mins. Follow it up by a warm water bath. Then dry the vaginal area thoroughly using super absorbent paper. It works like wonders and you will feel much better. Do this twice a day, once in the morning and at night before you sleep.
  • Juice of Aloe Vera is also a very good remedy. Apply it to the infected area to relieve itching.
